Foundation

Foundation was founded in 1976 by Dr. Stephen L. DeFelice, M.D.
to promote research and understanding of the role played by natural
substances in both pharmaceuticals and dietary supplements. Dr.
Felice coined the term "nutraceutical" as a means of giving identity
to natural substances and their importance in human health.

since 1989, Medical Herbalism's mission is to "strengthen
the herbal practitioner, preserve and develop the science and
art of herbal medicine..." Case studies, clinical tips, practice
reviews of eclectic approaches and more make up the content of
the publication. Of interest to those who seek instruction in
herbal medicine and it use, the Medical Herbalism includes
a listing of schools of herbal medicine and links to databases,
research organizations and other resources for the active herbalist.

Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM) at NIH

The NCCAM began as the Office for Alternative Medicine in 1992,
and has since been renamed and expanded. Its mandate is
to evaluate the effectiveness of complementary and alternative
medical (CAM) treatment. The NCCAM has funded eleven specialty
research centers that focus on a variety of specific health conditions.
