Are there other surveys like this?
To our knowledge, noand we have searched the web for similar
projects. We believe we are the only organization and website to
undertake a comprehensive survey of consumer knowledge about the
quality of specific products and brands of supplements.
Several organizations do give information on brands and products
that "pass the test" of various quality measures. ConsumerLab.com
compares brands with formulas that show good results in clinical
research. NNFA, NSF International and USP all have programs for
inspecting manufacturing plants for compliance with good manufacturing
practice (GMP) standards, and for testing individual products. These
four organizations offer quality seals that help consumers see at
a glance whether a brand or product has passed such testing.
In the spring of 2003, ConsumerLab began publishing the names of
brands that "flunk" their testsbut is the only organization
so far to do so. However, such information is limited to those products
and brands tested by ConsumerLab. Knowledge about other shoddy brands
does existand this survey makes it possible for people to
share such knowledge with the public.
